How to use Open Eyes
From a handful of shots to one photo where every face looks its best. It takes about a minute.
Before you start: take a few shots
- Take at least two photos of the same moment. Burst mode, or three or four quick taps, is ideal.
- Stay in the same spot and keep the phone at the same angle. Small movements are fine; the app lines the shots up.
- Ask everyone to hold the pose for a second. Blinks and half-smiles are exactly what the extra shots fix.
- Faces work best when they look roughly toward the camera and aren't covered by hands, hair or glasses glare.
Choose your shots
Open Open Eyes and tap Choose Photos to Fix. Pick 2 to 9 shots of the same moment from your gallery. The app only sees the photos you pick.
Pick your favorite
Tap the shot you like best overall: the framing, the light, the expressions you're happy with. This is the photo you'll keep; the other shots lend it their eyes and smiles.
Changed your mind later? Go back and pick a different favorite.
Let it look at your shots
Open Eyes finds the faces, lines up your shots and matches each face across them. You'll see Finding faces…, Lining up your shots… and Matching faces across shots…. Everything stays on your phone.
Tap a face to fix it
Faces another shot can improve have a yellow ring and a sparkle. The line under the photo tells you how many.
- Tap a highlighted face, then Use the best shots to take the suggested eyes and smile in one go.
- Or choose yourself: under Eyes and Smile, tap a shot. The one marked Best is the app's suggestion; As is keeps your favorite's own face.
- Undo steps back for that face. Tap Done to close.
Fixed faces turn green with a check. When nothing is left to improve you'll see Looking good. Tap Save copy when you're done.
Save a copy
Tap Save copy. Your fixed photo is saved to your gallery as a new photo (on Android in Pictures/Open Eyes, on iPhone in your Photos library). The original shots are untouched.
The share sheet opens right away if you want to send it.
Come back to it later
Your fixes are listed under Recent fixes on the home screen. Tap one to change it again; the app reopens your shots and restores your choices. Removing a fix from the list doesn't delete the photo from your gallery.
If something doesn't work
“No faces were found in your favorite shot”
Tap Pick a different favorite and try another shot, or start over with a sharper set. Very small, blurry or sideways faces may not be found.
“This face isn't clear enough in your other shots”
That person is hidden, turned away or missing in the other shots, so there's nothing to take from them. Their face stays as it is in your favorite.
A fix doesn't look right
Pick another shot for that face, or tap Undo. Fixes look best when the head is in a similar position in both shots; a hand in front of the face comes along with the fix.
“One of the shots this fix was made from has been deleted”
The fix can't be changed any more because a source shot is gone. The fixed photo is still in your gallery.
